AIM Startup challenge showcased 25 outstanding pitches on its 2nd day

The first edition of AIM Startup 2017, which is organised in conjunction with the seventh edition of the Annual Investment Meeting (AIM), showcased many start up projects from participants from so many countries in the world.
Nano particle analytics, delivery robots, agro business technology, renewable products, edtech, fintech, biotech, innovative web portals and apps for retail, transport and F&B and medical technology were among the many solutions revealed at the Startup competition. AIM Startup is held in Dubai World Trade Centre and runs until the 4th of April. The new initiative saw a prolific gathering of visitors, investors and officials.
The second day of AIM Startup was host to 25 pitches. Start-ups participating in the competition have been hand-picked to participate in the highly competitive competition who presented in front of multiple groups of VCs and leading investors serving as judges, such as Nour Halabi, Investment and Portfolio Manager at Turn 8, and Fahad Al Sharekh, Managing Partner at Techinvest Corp.
“Dubai is the city of Arabian dreams,” said Sahar Wahbeh, Agency Head of Skylark. Sahar and her team are representing Jordan through CODE. “Education is critical and coding is a major component of education today. Our solution offers children how to code on computers which is the future for young students. Available in English and Arabic, we facilitate basic coding for varied languages as JAVA, HTML, Scratch and many more. We are glad to be participating in the competition which will give us a platform to introduce our solutions not only to the region, but also to the world,” added Sahar.
AIM Startup featured many innovative speakers who shed light on significant topics as ‘Building Global Companies with Great Entrepreneurs and Great Angel Investors’, ‘The Do’s and Don’ts for a Fruitful Collaboration Between Government Agencies and Start-up Promoters’ and ‘Investing in Technologies of Tomorrow’.
“Participation at AIM Startup is the best decision we’ve made. While we have a chance to introduce our solutions, we’ve also had an opportunity to connect with the best in the industry,” said Daniyar Dzhumanazarov, Marketing Director of TEZ LLC. TEZ is a mobile application that provides effective solutions for urban life. The application showcases features that ease your day to day decision on getting around the city, planning family dinners, night out with friends or just about anything else.
AIM Startup is supported by five major partners including Dubai SME, TURN8, WOMENA, Entrepreneur Middle East and The Cribb. The winners of the pitch competition will be announced on the final day of the show.
Among the 100 new projects on display at the show, many start-up finalists will be awarded with cash prizes totaling USD 30,000 and a guaranteed investment of up to USD 500,000 by AIM Startup’s Venture Capital Partner Turn8.
“The number of start-ups participating at the competition is overwhelming. The start-up mind-set has seeped out of each country and become a world-wide phenomenon. While each pitch was better than the other, the best idea at any given day is not the one that fits the theme of the competition, but the one that fits the theme for 2017 and years to come. The pitches were brilliant and we are confident that the winners will be chosen among the best,” said Dawood Al Shezawi, CEO, AIM’s Organising Committee.
AIM Startup is an initiative of the Ministry of Economy. Judged by a panel of distinguished experts providing valuable feedback, AIM Startup is a platform where the world’s most promising and disruptive start-ups will be given an opportunity to expose innovative solutions to the global participants of the Annual Investment Meeting – a perfect place for entrepreneurs to meet business leaders, decision makers, government officials and investors directly.
