Empower to host inaugural certified workshop during preparatory day of the International District Cooling Conference 2016; Trade show to open tomorrow (Sunday, 13 November)

Alongside the seventh edition of the international district cooling conference 2016, the International District Energy Association (IDEA) will organize an inaugural certified workshop for district cooling providers tomorrow (Sunday, 13 November). Also, a group of companies from around the world will showcase their latest achievements and advanced technologies in district energy in the trade exhibition that will be inaugurated tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon

The conference will continue until 15th of the month with a rich program of presentations and meetings. The event that is taking place at Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai, is hosted by Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower).

Relevantly, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) and Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), are sponsoring around 100 students from major UAE universities to attend the workshops and conference. Student scholarship access is limited and those interested can click here or visit www.districtenergy.org to register and attend. Also, visitors wishing to attend the event can still register for the conference on-site. All registrants will have access to a world-class mobile app that enables on-line interaction among participants, provides real time agenda updates and information exchange and access to all the technical presentations curated for the workshop and conference.

“First of all, we thank DEWA and DSCE for their generous sponsorship for interested university students to attend our conference. . As a member of the Board of Directors of IDEA, our industry association is eager to enhance education and awareness among young people of the potential for district energy as a climate solution in cities. Moreover, it is a matter of pride for Empower to receive all these IDEA members and guests here in Dubai for another thought-provoking edition of the district cooling conference. Throughout three days, we will discuss the climate question and the way we can contribute in turning our industry in a green field. Preparatory day will be dedicated to discuss the best practices in the district energy sector with several well-known experts and specialists. We are happy to be part of this,” said HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower.

The workshops will focus on the best practices in district cooling system design, operation and optimization, and their green applications. The distinguished model of Dubai will be dressed in details via the example of Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence that is playing a leadership role in working closely with objectives of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Some of the topics to be discussed on the preparatory day are developing ways on how to ensure a smooth transition to a low-carbon and green economy through the exchange of knowledge and perspectives from around the world. Industry experts from many of the largest and most efficient district cooling systems will share practical design and operational insights drawn from actual operating systems serving mission-critical customers like world-famous cancer research hospitals, urban financial centers and data farms.

Engineers, architects and senior experts gather to address the key issues in system design in matter of energy and water conservation, thermal energy storage, their advantages and best practices, and the Delta T management in buildings.

Industry experts will provide current technology advances focused on control systems and data usage to optimize system and customer efficiency performance, and on leveraging technology and innovation to adopt in the local markets.

“We are bringing together engineers, officials and businessmen from around the globe to present fruitful experiences with proven results and come up with quality solutions and applications to Dubai and GCC environments. The day promises valuable engagement and dialogue with professionals that know best the district cooling industry and the ways to optimize it in order to make more eco-friendly and at the same time more efficient and profitable,” commented Rob Thornton, President and CEO, IDEA.

IDEA brings together members that are leading in providing reliable, economical, efficient and environmentally sound district heating, district cooling and cogeneration (also known as combined heat and power or CHP) services and micro-grids. In addition to conferences and workshops, IDEA actively provides lobbying services and advocacy to secure favorable legislation and funding opportunities for the district energy/CHP industry.

‘districtCOOLING: A Climate Solution’ is the theme of world’s premier district cooling conference’s 2016 edition. According to Thornton, It is a “must-attend” event for district cooling providers, real estate developers, hotel and property owners, master planners, system designers, efficiency experts, contractors, consultants and government stakeholders.

The focus of the conference is to provide peer-to-peer learning, sharing of industry best practices, updates on technology innovations and deep exploration of proven approaches to capture efficiency in community-scale energy and water use, especially for the harsher climates of the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

As the Paris Agreement on Climate Change signed at the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21) has now entered into force, the need for highly efficient and sustainable district cooling has increased in importance for the Gulf Region.

“Global leaders are gathering in Dubai to share industry best practices and exchange ideas on accelerating deployment of district cooling systems,” said Thornton.

Established in 2003, Empower aims to enable the real estate sector in UAE, to efficiently utilize energy resources through District Cooling Services (DCS). It provides its services to various landmark projects such as Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai Design District, Jumeirah Group and Ibn Battuta Mall among others.
