Saudi Arabia — December 13, 2022: Amazon Saudi Arabia hosted a workshop with key government entities in the Kingdom, including the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) and the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), on how Amazon protects brand copyrights, trademarks, and intellectual property to ensure a trustworthy shopping experience for Amazon’s customers each and every day, in line with its relentless focus on customer obsession. The workshop presented key findings from Amazon’s latest brand protection report, as well as its advanced brand protection technology and tools.

Ammar Alsulami, General Manager of Customs Operations ZATCA said: “We have an important role to play in Saudi Arabia’s economic and social development in order to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.  Amazon shares our commitment to relentless customer focus so we were pleased to participate in this informative workshop to ensure we can continue to strengthen this cooperation for the benefit and positive impact on customers.”

Amazon continues to showcase its commitment to bring world-class online retail expertise to Saudi Arabia – delighting customers while protecting them, and empowering sellers. This year, Amazon.sa signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Ministry of Investment (MISA) and Monsha’at, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises, to enhance Amazon’s presence in Saudi Arabia, enabling tens of thousands of small- and medium-sized businesses to sell their products to millions of customers across the Kingdom, and assist scores of entrepreneurs to set up their logistics businesses. Amazon operates an extensive network of logistics and operations across Saudi Arabia, including its three Fulfillment centers in Riyadh and Jeddah, 11 delivery stations, two sorting centers and a network of 11 Delivery Service Partners across the Kingdom.

Hatem Samman, Head of Public Policy for Amazon Saudi Arabia, said: “Amazon is committed to supporting sellers of all sizes, innovating and introducing new solutions to help them confidently grow their business and connect with millions of customers. We are pleased to showcase our efforts in this area to our key government partners and thank them for their ongoing support to ensure we are able to provide our customers with a safe and comfortable shopping experience.”

Amazon strictly prohibits counterfeit products in its store, using a combination of advanced artificial intelligence and verification by experts who proactively vet both selling partners and products so customers can shop with peace of mind. Since its launch in Saudi Arabia, Amazon.sa has launched several tools specifically developed to address counterfeit goods and help businesses of all sizes protect their brands, including:

  •  is a free service for brand owners regardless of whether they sell in Amazon’s store or not, providing brands with access to advanced tools to help manage and protect their brand and intellectual property rights on Amazon. Brand owners can search for, identify, and report suspected infringements and subsequently track their submissions within a dedicated dashboard. Brand Registry also allows Amazon to more effectively safeguard brands through automated protections that leverage machine learning and the data provided in Brand Registry. Automated protections continuously scan Amazon’s stores to surface potentially infringing products. There are now more than 700,000 brands enrolled in Amazon’s Brand Registry worldwide.
  •  combines Amazon’s advanced technology with the sophisticated knowledge brands have of their own intellectual property and how best to detect counterfeit listings. Project Zero provides the unprecedented ability for brands to directly remove listings from Amazon, with more than 20,000 brands currently enrolled
  •  allows intellectual property rights owners and their agents to notify Amazon of alleged intellectual property infringements such as copyright and trademark concerns
  •  directly connects SMB owners in Saudi Arabia with a curated network of local law firms charging reduced, pre-negotiated rates on key services, giving SMBs access to expert legal and general IP advice that may otherwise be cost-prohibitive or hard to find

In 2021, Amazon invested more than $900 million and employed more than 12,000 people – including machine learning scientists, software developers, and expert investigators who dedicated their efforts to protect customers, brands, selling partners, and the Amazon store from counterfeit, fraud, and other forms of legal violations.
