New products launched by Canon at IBC exhibition in Amsterdam

A range of new products were launched by Canon at the world-renowned IBC Exhibition recently. The IBC is the world’s most influential media, entertainment and technology show that took place between 13-17 September at Amsterdam’s RAI exhibition center. The event also shed light on Canon’s key initiative of storytelling, by hosting enlightening seminars for its visitors.

Canon launched the EOS C500 Mark II, a professional category camera which features a full-frame CMOS sensor with an effective 18.69MP resolution. As the next generation Cinema EOS System camera – the EOS C500 Mark II, has been created with the expertise and technical knowledge at the heart of Canon’s innovative products, and is a compact and versatile 5.9K Full Frame camera. This allows it to feature a 5.9K output in full frame, and crop (window) the sensor for Super 35 and Super 16 frame sizes while maintaining a high resolution.

This camera enables professionals to creatively explore Full Frame, cinematic image and is the first camera in the range with the ability to record 5.9K Cinema RAW Light onto new, providing professionals with greater flexibility and efficiency, simultaneous recording of the same file format is also possible due to dual CFexpress card slots. The compact size of the camera provides cinematographers with unparalleled creative freedom. With its flexible, modular design, professionals can configure the camera with different expansion units to suit production requirements.

Canon also launched the DP-V3120 – 4K HDR professional reference display with 2,000 high luminance, 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, exceptional accuracy and consistency, wide colour gamut, as well as extensive HDR monitoring assist functions, the DP-V3120 is the perfect reference display for professionals creating stunning High Dynamic Range content.

 

The full-screen brightness is supported by Canon’s newly developed cutting-edge backlight system. This system includes highly efficient LEDs, with a precise LED control algorithm and advanced image processing – enabling the display to deliver a minimum black of 0.001 cd/m² and an outstanding 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio for accurate reproduction of shadow details and bright highlights. This backlight system incorporates a newly designed cooling mechanism – allowing the display to achieve high brightness continuously with quiet operation, making it an ideal tool for a grading suite. Additionally, Canon’s innovative backlight system equips sensors across the entire unit, and intelligent auto correction technology enables the display to sustain image accuracy during operation.

 

Canon further announced the release of the new CJ15ex4.3B – a 4K broadcast portable zoom lens with class-leading magnification and wide-angle focal length. Offering outstanding optical performance of the UHDxs series, the class leading CJ15ex4.3B supports a maximum zoom of 15x and a wide-angle focal length of 4.3mm. The lightweight (2.19kg) and compact lens enables broadcasters to achieve 4K optical performance, even with its built-in 2x extender, ensuring footage is of the highest resolution – from the centre of the image to the very edges. With viewer demands for 4K content rising, the CJ15ex4.3B is the ideal choice for broadcasters looking to future-proof their content when upgrading to 4K systems and workflows.

Guests included Canon product-users from government departments, broadcasters and production houses. The initiative from Canon was instigated to strengthen ties with professional Canon users and to offer support to their industries.
