Waseela Technology Solutions Combats Risks in Public Safety
Waseela, the leading regional Telecommunications and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system integrator brings to the region an array of technology solutions to assist in increasing public safety across the GCC. These technology solutions span systems that form critical parts of public safety systems inside important buildings such as airports and metros, periphery security systems at private and public institutions such as schools and hospitals, and long range wireless connectivity.
Active distributed antenna systems for indoor coverage of public safety communication network, advanced access security control, CCTV monitoring solutions, and long range wireless connectivity are some of the solutions Waseela presently offers.
Public safety networks use technology to achieve their targets and combat and minimize risks to the public. It has become a necessity to empower public safety and security agencies, especially in fast-paced cities with advanced new solutions to ensure that field public safety personnel have ubiquitous and confirmed access to resources and to communicate with each other. Security personnel are incorporating body cameras, in-vehicle computers, smartphone applications and various other technologies that provide information on a real-time basis as required. The need for better security systems and faster response times is underscored by the density of some cities or popular tourist destinations, and frequently visited institutions.
The technologies used in public safety are increasingly required to carry richer information required by security personnel, field collected data, and field team communication. This enables public safety organizations to perform proactive security measures, and react faster various types of incidents. Technologies such as CCTV, facial recognition, license plate readers, and other tracking and monitoring systems provide valuable information to mitigate risks and prevent security attacks but require advanced means to be transported and stored and later on retrieved during the handling of incidents or preventing public threats.
“For technology assisted public safety to be reliable, continuous technological advancements are necessary and should encompass the entire gamut of technological systems, and not just security devices or systems,’’ stressed Mr Ahmad Zaidan, Director of Systems Engineering at Waseela. Developments in technology infrastructure are extremely important because these are the foundations on which real-time systems rely to deliver information efficiently and effectively. If this infrastructure lacks in any way, then the remaining information systems become unreliable and hard to access in a timely manner to serve the purpose behind them.
Another challenge in developing efficient technological systems for public safety is in ensuring that this infrastructure is secure and encrypted end-to-end and that applications data and information travels across the network without the chance of being intercepted, analysed or manipulated, this serves a long way in ensuring the credibility of not only the infrastructure but also the applications and their data as well
Continuing on the importance of holistic technological systems, Mr Ahmad Zaidan stated that “High-speed and secure infrastructure, secure access to security information systems, and policy enforcement are important pillars of any technological solution for public safety and cannot be disregarded as the most important features of modern infrastructure in public safety domain.”
In response, the critical communications community in cooperation with 3GPP continues to develop infrastructure standards, secure datacenters, network security, tracking and new applications as main parts of the trends in the technology for public safety world.
At present, Waseela too is concentrating on working on new 4G (LTE) solutions, advanced active antenna distribution solutions for TETRA technology specifically for large stadiums, airports and metros, as well as develop small cell applications to serve specific modern network challenges.
