Tencent Esports and Olympic Council of Asia Forge Historic 10-Year Partnership
Tencent Esports OCA partnership marks a transformative milestone in Asian esports history as the two organizations announced a comprehensive ten-year strategic collaboration spanning from 2025 to 2035. The Olympic Council of Asia has officially designated Tencent Esports as its “Official Esports Technology Partner,” signaling a shift from event support to systematic co-construction centered on technology, standards, and ecosystem development.
The partnership was ratified following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during the OCA Executive Board meeting in Bahrain in October 2025. This collaboration builds on years of successful cooperation, including Tencent Esports’ technical support during esports’ debut as a demonstration sport at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and its elevation to an official medal event at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou.
Strategic Leadership and Vision
In a significant institutional move, Yati Zhang, Director of Tencent Esports, has been appointed as the OCA Esports Manager. She will play a pivotal role in co-constructing the Asian esports event system and driving ecosystem development across the continent.
“Based on the pleasant cooperation and trust built over the past decade, we have witnessed Tencent Esports’ excellence in driving industry development. This partnership is not just an upgrade in title, but a unification of responsibility. It signals that Asian esports has moved from an era of ‘participation’ to an era of ‘system co-construction.'”
Dr. Husain Al-Musallam, Director General of the OCA
Introducing the Tencent Esports Competition System
Leveraging successful technical deployments at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, Tencent Esports OCA collaboration will introduce the Tencent Esports Competition System (ECS). This comprehensive platform aggregates experience from multiple top-tier tournaments and will provide end-to-end, high-availability technical support for future Asian Games and major continental events. The system ensures competitions operate under standards that are fair, stable, and efficient while driving digital transformation across Asian tournaments.
The Tri-Pillar Drive Development Model
Hou Miao, Vice President of Tencent Games and General Manager of Tencent Esports, unveiled the “Tri-Pillar Drive” integrated development model designed to guide the industry’s future evolution. This innovative framework comprises three essential drivers working in synergy.
“I believe the future of esports will be driven by a tripartite synergy: the ‘Publisher Tech Ecosystem’ as the engine of innovation, ‘Continental/Global Sports Organizations like the OCA’ as the authoritative platform, and ‘National/Regional Esports Strategies’ as the fulcrum for implementation.”
Hou Miao, Vice President of Tencent Games
Future Outlook for Asian Esports
The decade-long partnership aims to establish a sustainable, replicable framework for esports integration into the global mainstream sports system. By combining technological innovation, institutional authority, and regional implementation strategies, the collaboration seeks to create a robust “Asian Path” for esports development that can serve as a model for the global sports community.
This strategic alliance positions Asia at the forefront of esports evolution, promising enhanced credibility, operational efficiency, and high-quality development across the continental esports industry through 2035.
