Saudi Arabia Launches Future Minerals Pioneers Innovation Camp with Global Participation

Saudi Arabia has officially launched the Future Minerals Pioneers innovation camp, marking the first edition of the global minerals innovation competition. The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, in partnership with the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP), organized this significant event from January 8-10, 2026.

Global Participation and Competition Scale

The camp attracted 356 participants representing 32 countries in the global competition phase, selected from 1,812 applicants from 57 countries worldwide. Saudi participants comprised 68% of qualified candidates, while international participants made up 32% of the total.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs, Engineer Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer, officially opened the camp under the patronage of Minister Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef. The event serves as the final stage before announcing winners and honoring partners on January 14, 2026, during the International Mining Conference in Riyadh.

Three Innovation Tracks Address Mining Challenges

Participating teams compete across three main tracks to develop innovative solutions for six challenges. The Smart Technologies track focuses on intelligent compliance solutions in mining complexes and improving mineral exploration processes.

  • Security and Safety track: Developing preventive solutions to reduce risks at mining sites
  • Resource Sustainability track: Addressing circular mining challenges and improving water consumption efficiency
  • Smart Technologies track: Enhancing compliance and exploration operations

During his tour, Deputy Minister Al-Mudaifer reviewed solution models presented by participating teams, observed innovative project presentations, and monitored interactive workshops and technical discussions.

Strategic Partnerships and Expert Involvement

The camp features extensive participation from key partners, led by Saudi Arabian Mining Company “Maaden” as the main competition partner. Saudi Mining Services Company “Isnad” serves as the primary partner for the national competition phase, alongside various national and international organizations contributing to challenge design, mentoring, and judging.

Elite local and international experts and jury members representing more than 16 government and private sector entities participate in the camp, enhancing expertise diversity and evaluation quality. The program includes awareness workshops and mentoring sessions to develop and evaluate solutions, aligning them with real challenges in the mining sector.
