E1 Jeddah GP 2026: Electric Racing Returns to the Red Sea

The E1 Jeddah GP is set to ignite the Red Sea as the UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF returns to Saudi Arabia for its 2026 season opener. This weekend, the world’s only all-electric raceboat series begins its most ambitious campaign yet, solidifying Jeddah’s position as a global hub for sustainable sports and marine innovation. Serving as the season-opener for the third successive year, the event highlights the Kingdom’s growing influence in the international sporting arena and its commitment to a greener future.

A Record-Breaking Grid for 2026

The 2026 season features an expanded grid of 10 teams, the largest in the championship’s history. Among the most anticipated competitors is Team AlUla, championed by NBA legend LeBron James. Carrying the pride of Saudi Arabia, Team AlUla returns to its home waters following a historic debut season. The competition is fiercer than ever, with celebrity-backed teams including defending champions Team Brady (Tom Brady), Team Rafa (Rafael Nadal), Team Westbrook (Russell Westbrook), and Aoki Racing Team (Steve Aoki). Newcomers Team Monaco and Sierra Racing Club add fresh energy to the high-stakes electric racing circuit.

The Significance of the E1 Jeddah GP

Since its formation in 2024, the E1 Jeddah GP has been a cornerstone of the championship. The race takes place against the stunning backdrop of the Jeddah Corniche, where the cutting-edge RaceBird boats will reach high speeds using innovative hydrofoil technology. This technology allows the boats to rise above the water, reducing drag and maximizing energy efficiency. Beyond the thrill of the race, the event serves as a platform for Saudi Arabia to showcase its long-term investment in electric propulsion and sustainable coastal development.

“Jeddah is ready to once again set the tone for the E1 World Championship as the 2026 season begins on the Red Sea. This event demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s active role in the future of electric racing, from competition on the water to sustainability, education, and innovation beyond it.”

Sustainability and Education Initiatives

A key component of the E1 Jeddah GP is its impact beyond the racecourse. In partnership with Formula E, the championship is delivering the “Driving Force Presented by PIF 360” program. This initiative provides hands-on STEM education to students aged 8 to 18, focusing on the future of electric mobility and environmental stewardship. Having reached 60,000 students globally in 2025, the program aims to inspire another 50,000 this year, ensuring that the legacy of the E1 Jeddah GP includes a more informed and inspired younger generation.

Future Outlook for Electric Marine Racing

The E1 Championship acts as an active laboratory for technologies that could revolutionize marine transport. By accelerating the development of electric motors and battery systems in a high-performance environment, E1 is paving the way for cleaner oceans and more efficient watercraft. As the 2026 season kicks off in Jeddah, the focus remains on how these innovations can be scaled for commercial use, further supporting the global transition to renewable energy. The E1 Jeddah GP is not just a race; it is a glimpse into the future of maritime technology.

“We are always very excited to return to Jeddah. This place holds a special part in our hearts, as it is where E1 held its very first race in 2024. Returning for the third consecutive season and opening the championship here again is incredibly meaningful for us.”

John Williams, Managing Director at E1

Qualifying for the event begins on Friday, January 23, with the main race scheduled for Saturday, January 24. Fans can witness the action live at the Jeddah Corniche, with tickets available through official channels.
