e& and IBM Unveil Agentic AI for Enterprise Governance

e& and IBM have announced a groundbreaking strategic partnership to implement agentic AI enterprise governance solutions, marking a significant shift from traditional chatbot systems to action-oriented artificial intelligence integrated directly into core operational systems. The initiative was unveiled during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Transforming Enterprise Governance with Agentic AI

The collaboration between e&, the global technology group, and IBM (NYSE: IBM) focuses on establishing agentic AI foundations across e&’s operations, beginning with policy management, risk assessment, and compliance functions. This represents a fundamental evolution from natural language processing-based chatbots to AI models that can reason, take action, and integrate deeply with enterprise systems.

The solution leverages IBM watsonx Orchestrate, which provides over 500 specialized, configurable tools and agents from IBM and its partners. This enables employees and auditors to quickly access, analyze, and interpret legal, regulatory, and compliance information with unprecedented accuracy and efficiency.

Proven Concept with Real-World Applications

A joint proof-of-concept developed by IBM, e&, and GBM over eight weeks demonstrates how agentic AI can operate effectively at enterprise scale under real operational conditions. IBM’s Client Engineering team led the solution design and integration, while GBM provided crucial implementation support leveraging its deep expertise in e&’s OpenPages and Watsonx Assistant environment.

The integration with IBM OpenPages and operational watsonx solutions delivers precise, transparent, and traceable responses that align with enterprise-level governance requirements, supporting reliable decision-making processes. This collaboration showcases AI capabilities that extend beyond traditional question-and-answer patterns to include reasoning and action-taking, while maintaining strict adherence to e&’s governance, risk, and compliance framework.

“We aspire to move from limited AI use cases to business-wide agentic AI that is trusted, governed, and deeply integrated with enterprise workflows. Through our collaboration with IBM, we are embedding AI directly into risk management and compliance processes, accelerating decision-making and providing consistent policy analysis for broader adoption of agentic AI across the group.”

Setting Regional Standards for AI Governance

The initiative aligns closely with watsonx.governance solutions currently used at e&, enhancing AI governance, explainability, and compliance from the design phase. The direct integration of agentic AI into the OpenPages environment for governance, risk, and compliance management represents one of the first enterprise applications of this AI type in the region, highlighting its role in supporting human-led decisions that comply with regulatory and operational requirements.

IBM’s AI solutions demonstrate flexibility and a model-agnostic approach, allowing large language models to operate within hybrid operational environments, including customer-managed infrastructure, while maintaining strict enterprise controls.

“As organizations transition from experimenting with AI to integrating it into the core of their operations, governance and decision-making capability become as important as the intelligence itself. Through our partnership with e&, this proof-of-concept aims to demonstrate how agentic AI can be designed, validated for enterprise readiness, and deeply integrated into core systems to be reliable and supportive of human-led decisions and outcomes.”

This partnership represents a pivotal milestone in e&’s journey toward enterprise AI, establishing a scalable and governed foundation for AI adoption across various business units. By integrating action-oriented AI into the core of governance and compliance operations, e& reinforces its commitment to responsible innovation and sets a new standard for trusted enterprise-level agentic AI in the region.
