Digital Diagnostics and Google Cloud Collaborate to Combat Diabetic Retinopathy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Collaboration to Rapidly Scale AI-Powered Diabetic Retinopathy Testing Nationwide
November 26, 2024, Coralville, Iowa. Digital Diagnostics announced that it will expand the ability to quickly scale its diabetic retinopathy testing service in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in collaboration with Google Cloud. This represents a significant step for AI-powered diabetic retinopathy testing in Saudi Arabia. With more than eight million people living with diabetes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, this population has an acute need for LumineticsCore, which is Digital Diagnostics’ AI solution that detects diabetic retinopathy at the point of care.
Expanding AI Eye Care Access in Saudi Arabia
“Digital Diagnostics collaborating with Google Cloud enhances the ability for LumineticsCore [previously IDx-DR] to reach more patients living with diabetes who are most in need of specialty eye care,” said Digital Diagnostics CEO John Bertrand. “By leveraging Google Cloud’s secure infrastructure, Digital Diagnostics will protect sensitive health data within national borders, safeguarding patient privacy, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering trust.” This collaboration is expected to improve AI-powered diabetic retinopathy testing in Saudi Arabia.
Google Cloud will support the efficient and secure deployment and delivery of the LumineticsCore AI diagnostics solution. Digital Diagnostics will integrate Google Cloud’s regional Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to support AI and machine learning more efficiently than Central Processing Units (CPUs). Through Google Cloud’s Partner Services Funds, Google Cloud is funding Evonence, a Google Cloud Premier Partner, to expand LumineticsCore compatibility to run on Google Cloud. This funding further aids AI-powered diabetic retinopathy testing in Saudi Arabia.
Google Cloud’s Role in Scaling LumineticsCore
Digital Diagnostics’ collaboration with Google Cloud is the next milestone in the company’s years-long work to extend large-scale diabetic retinopathy testing to people living with diabetes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 2022, Digital Diagnostics signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment to explore potential medical services, medical technology, and digital health collaborations. The following year, Digital Diagnostics announced a strategic partnership with Tamer Healthcare, an integrated healthcare and wellness firm that has served Saudi patients for over 100 years to make the healthcare system more comprehensive, effective, and integrated.
The collaboration with Google Cloud launched in November 2024 and could expand into other regional markets. For additional details about LumineticsCore, visit https:/ /www.digitaldiagnostics.com/products/eye-disease/lumineticscore/.
