AI Adoption UAE Enterprises Reaches 92% Strategic Priority

New research from Dell Technologies reveals that artificial intelligence has become a critical strategic priority for businesses across the United Arab Emirates. The global State of Innovation and AI Survey, which surveyed 2,850 business and IT decision-makers including 50 from the UAE, found that 92% of UAE enterprises now view AI and generative AI as a key part of their organization’s business strategy. Furthermore, 88% of UAE organizations are already seeing substantial returns on investment and productivity gains from their initial AI implementations.

Driving AI Adoption in the UAE

The research identifies several key drivers accelerating AI adoption across UAE enterprises. Data readiness has emerged as a top priority, with 64% of UAE organizations prioritizing “data readiness for AI” as a leading IT initiative. This focus signals strong commitment to building the foundational infrastructure required to support AI’s full potential and capabilities.

On-premises AI deployment is gaining significant traction, with 74% of UAE businesses planning to consume AI through software and run it locally on AI PCs over the next 12 months. This shift toward localized AI deployment reflects growing concerns about data sovereignty and regulatory compliance, particularly important in the UAE’s regulated business environment.

An encouraging trend shows that 92% of UAE companies recognize AI’s critical role in optimizing resource use and improving sustainability. Organizations are increasingly leveraging AI for energy efficiency, smarter data center management, and circular IT practices, aligning technological innovation with environmental responsibility.

Critical Barriers to AI Implementation

Despite the promising adoption rates, significant challenges continue to hinder full-scale AI implementation across UAE enterprises. The research reveals three persistent obstacles that organizations must address to unlock AI’s complete potential.

Skills gap represents the most alarming barrier, with 100% of surveyed UAE companies believing their teams lack necessary skills to fully leverage AI. This marks a sharp increase in concerns compared to previous years, with 66% of UAE organizations reporting insufficient knowledge specifically around safe generative AI implementation.

Security concerns have intensified significantly, with 72% of UAE companies expressing fears about exposing sensitive corporate data and intellectual property to third-party AI tools—a notable increase from 64% the previous year. Additionally, 80% of organizations highlight the challenge of balancing innovation with cybersecurity risk mitigation.

Infrastructure readiness remains problematic for many enterprises. Current IT environments often prove inadequate for AI workload demands, with challenges including insufficient processing power, lack of AI-optimized hardware, and enhanced data security requirements. Without addressing these infrastructure gaps, AI integration efforts will continue facing delays.

AI and Sustainability Goals Alignment

An encouraging development reveals increasing alignment between AI innovation and sustainability objectives. UAE organizations are exploring AI’s potential to optimize energy efficiency through intelligent data center management, minimizing idle workloads, and moving inferencing tasks to edge computing environments. Notably, 82% of UAE organizations highlight the importance of external collaboration in achieving circular IT solutions, signaling an emerging ecosystem of shared expertise.

“The State of Innovation and AI Survey reflects a powerful shift in how UAE businesses are embracing AI to drive innovation and growth. Organizations are moving beyond piloting AI and are instead beginning to embed it at the core of their strategies. This transition underscores the transformative potential of AI, but achieving its full impact will require addressing critical challenges, from workforce upskilling to secure and collaborative implementation.”

The research demonstrates that while UAE enterprises are making significant strides toward AI adoption, scaling AI effectively requires a holistic approach. Building robust infrastructure, fostering new skillsets, and prioritizing secure and ethical practices remain essential for organizations seeking to maximize their AI investments and competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
