Abbott Unveils Libre Assist App with AI-Powered Glucose Prediction at CES 2026

Abbott has launched Libre Assist app, a new AI-powered feature that helps people with diabetes make informed food choices by predicting glucose impact before eating. The feature was unveiled at CES 2026 in Las Vegas and is available at no additional cost within the existing Libre app.

AI Technology Predicts Glucose Impact Before Meals

Unlike traditional food logging apps that provide feedback after meals, the Libre Assist app uses generative AI to predict how food choices may affect glucose levels in real-time. Users can snap a photo or enter a text description of their food, and the algorithm identifies ingredients and displays a color-coded rating system.

The rating system uses green for minor glucose impact, yellow for moderate, and orange for major impact. The app also provides practical meal tips to help reduce potential glucose spikes, such as choosing plain Greek yogurt over flavored varieties or eating leafy greens and proteins before starches.

Integration with Abbott’s CGM Technology

After meals, Libre Assist integrates with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensors to confirm actual glucose impact. This combination of predictive AI and real-time monitoring data helps users understand their body’s unique response to different foods.

The personalized feedback system allows individuals to make more informed decisions about future food choices based on their specific glucose patterns and responses to various meals and ingredients.

“Traditional food logging apps left me guessing. With Libre Assist I can see how a meal might affect my glucose before I eat—especially helpful when dining out or trying new foods,” said Shirley Bovshow, who lives with Type 2 diabetes and tested the new feature.
