CGS SELECTS HONEYWELL TO HELP DRIVE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA

Global technology leader Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that CGS, a leading refrigeration company in Saudi Arabia, has adopted its Genetron Performax® LT refrigerant to help meet its goals for environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, in line with Saudi Vision 2030’s environmental sustainability agenda. CGS showcased the adoption of environmental technology at Honeywell’s “Next Generation Refrigerants” roadshow event in Riyadh last week, leveraging Genetron Performax LT (R-407F) in all of its cold storage warehouses across the Kingdom.

Yahia Henblass, the chief engineer at CGS Riyadh, said, “Our adoption of Genetron Performax LT is critical to meeting our goal of implementing only the most advanced, sustainable, and energy-efficient solutions in our products, in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The Honeywell roadshow is a great platform to showcase the growing transition to solutions like Genetron Performax LT that encompass the optimal combination of environmental benefits and regulatory compliance for the refrigeration industry.”

The global refrigeration and air conditioning sectors are in the midst of a major transition toward environmentally preferable and energy-efficient refrigerants. To meet domestic energy efficiency goals found in Saudi Vision 2030 and global environmental commitments such as the Montreal Protocol, Saudi Arabia and the Middle East region are transitioning to lower-GWP refrigerants. A similar transition is already being witnessed in the European Union (EU), where higher-GWP refrigerants like R-404A and R-507A are being phased out under the F-Gas regulations. Consequently, the EU refrigeration sector is rapidly transitioning to more energy-efficient refrigerants such as Genetron Performax LT that also provide a GWP reduction.

“As the Kingdom aims to reduce demand for energy consumption over the next 20 years, it will be imperative for the refrigeration industry to adopt refrigerants that help them achieve goals for energy savings and reduced environmental impact,” said Amir Naqvi, regional marketing leader, Honeywell Fluorine Products, Middle East, Turkey, and Africa. “CGS’ adoption of Genetron Performax LT sets a new standard for sustainability and energy efficiency in the region.”

Genetron Performax LT is a cost-effective solution that provides better performance and energy efficiency, leading to reduced operational costs compared with the currently prevalent refrigerants. The fact that it reduces overall system and equipment costs means a lower total cost of ownership.

Ideal for medium- and low-temperature commercial applications such as supermarket freezer cases, reach-in coolers, cold warehousing, process cooling, and other central refrigeration plants, Genetron Performax LT is specifically designed to replace R-404A, R-507A, and R-22 and can be used in retrofits, as well as in new installations. Honeywell estimates that Genetron Performax LT has saved more than 10 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent to date, equal to eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from more than 5 million cars.

The Riyadh roadshow highlighted the benefits of Honeywell’s energy-efficient and environmentally preferable refrigeration solutions. It is part of a series of Honeywell customer events in Saudi Arabia that will also cover Dammam and Jeddah to educate new and existing users about next-generation environmental technology.

Honeywell’s presence in Saudi Arabia extends back to the 1970s, with 10 offices throughout the Kingdom. Honeywell is leveraging its technological and innovative capabilities to advance renewable energy and sustainability through education, research, development, investment, commercialization, and adaptation.

Honeywell is a world leader in the development, manufacture, and supply of refrigerants sold worldwide under the Solstice® and Genetron® brand names for a range of applications, including refrigeration, building, and automobile air conditioning. Honeywell and its suppliers have completed a $900 million investment program in R&D and new capacity based on Honeywell’s HFO technology. For more information, visit www.honeywell-refrigerants.com.
