Conakry – November 15, 2022 

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Guinea, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, today received the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, His Excellency Mr. Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, and his accompanying delegation in Conakry. The meeting was attended by His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Guinea, Dr. Hussein bin Nasser Al-Dakhil Allah, and several officials. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss development projects financed by the Fund in Guinea and the progress of their implementation.

The reception by His Excellency the President of Guinea happened on the side lines of the SFD CEO’s visit to the brotherly country to sign a memorandum of understanding with His Excellency the Guinean Minister of Economy and Finance for the fifth phase of the Saudi Well-Drilling and Rural Development program in Africa. Through the Saudi Fund for Development, the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia provided a grant of $8 million to support water and food security, develop the agricultural sector, and reduce drought in Guinea.

President Mamady Doumbouya praised the efforts made by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Fund for Development in supporting projects and programs aimed at developing the Republic of Guinea, helping improve the country’s social and economic situation in addition to achieving sustainable development goals.

For his part, SFD CEO Mr. Sultan Al-Marshad, emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment, through the Fund, to contributing to the development of relations between the two parties by financing projects and development programs in the Republic of Guinea.

To strengthen development cooperation between the Fund and the Republic of Guinea, the SFD CEO also met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea, Dr. Bernard Goumou, and His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté. 

The Kingdom’s support of the Saudi Well Drilling and Rural Development program in Africa through the SFD demonstrates the government’s commitment to helping African countries overcome the effects of drought. The implementation of the program began in 1982. Its contributions have reached over 6,300 water facilities in 13 African countries with a total amount of $330 million to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the sectors of infrastructure, access to water and food security, and the preservation of public health. The program also aims to reduce environmental pollution to achieve sustainable development goals.
