HUAWEI Developer Day presented an all-scenario intelligent future for all

Dubai – 19 October 2022: HUAWEI Mobile Services (HMS), a part of Huawei Consumer Business Group, hosted the HUAWEI Developer Day at Dubai World Trade Center’s majestic Al Multaqua Ballroom on 12th October 2022. The event brought together developers, coders, devs operations, tech-savvy marketers, Chief Executive Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and media from across the region, eager to learn about the latest advancements in the HMS ecosystem from Huawei’s local and global executives.

Commenting on the milestone HUAWEI Developer Day event, Lu Geng, Vice President of the Middle East and Africa, Huawei Global Partnerships & Eco-Development at Huawei Consumer Business Group said, “At Huawei, our vision is to bring digital to every person, home, and organisation by breaking ground for a fully connected and intelligent world for all. We are honoured to expand our active users’ base to more than 730 million users, who enjoy our mobile services monthly, and over 580 million monthly active users in our HMS ecosystem. This milestone would not have been made possible without the 5.4 million global developers who assisted us greatly in the development of apps and games.”

HUAWEI Apps UP took over the stage, offering the attendees a glimpse into Huawei’s renowned annual innovation contest, which provides talents with the knowledge, coaching, and support they need to transform their innovative ideas into reality. This year, a total prize pool of US$230,000 is available for the best apps and games in the Middle East and Africa region, while Apps UP 2022 has already entered its preliminary phase, which will lead to the selection of the top 30 apps.

The focus next shifted to the HMS ecosystem and its latest updates, which build on Huawei’s commitment to delivering high-quality smart living experiences for every user. With the number of HMS developers doubling year over year, a constantly increasing number of monthly active users and HUAWEI AppGallery becoming the third-largest app marketplace globally, there are limitless growth opportunities. Using the robust HMS Core Open Capabilities and Huawei’s industry-leading support services, developers are able to create an all-scenario intelligent future.

Huawei not only guides developers with the simple integration of HMS Core but also helps them scale and monetise their apps. In addition to the superior capabilities provided by the HMS Core kits, the HMS Ads Kit enables developers to monetise traffic.

Petal Search and Petal Maps are two excellent examples of expert solutions provided by the HMS Core kits. Petal Search has expanded significantly, reaching over 170 countries and regions and speaking over 78 languages. Last year’s x8 increase in Monthly Active Users propelled it into the Top 5 Mobile Search Engines in more than 25 countries. Petal Maps has 20 million active users in 166 countries and 70+ languages supported thanks to its precision positioning technology. The rich and customisable map display lets customers view real-time road conditions.

One of the key success stories featured at the event was STEPPI, a UAE-based start-up that is making waves as a lifestyle and fitness app that rewards people for being active. In the 2021 edition of Apps UP, STEPPI won the ‘Honourable Mention’ category.

Following the app’s release on AppGallery, STEPPI increased brand awareness across target markets and audiences, and Joe Franklin, Co-Founder and CEO of STEPPI, appeared on stage to talk about the app’s success. “Our partnership with Huawei allows us to reach new customers and aligns with our broader aim to create a more active world. The end-to-end support provided by the Huawei team ensured that the STEPPI app was seamlessly integrated with HMS Health Kit, and HUAWEI Watch 3 for users across markets,” Joe Franklin stated.

The significant media presence validated the success of HUAWEI Developer Day, while the attendees’ response was overwhelming. Upon the conclusion of the event, several participants, including developers and companies across various sectors, expressed their enthusiasm for the new HMS features and voiced their interest in joining Huawei’s evolving ecosystem. As one of the world’s largest technology providers, Huawei strongly emphasises on collaborating with exceptional developers and partners to provide the ultimate user experience of a seamless AI life.
