IoT Solutions World Congress to hold its best edition with over 170 exhibitors and 160 speakers
The 2016 edition of the Internet of Things Solutions World Congress (IoTSWC) will once again gather the world’s leading Industrial Internet companies and experts at the Fira de Barcelona from October 25th to 27th and will showcase the best solutions and technologies that IoT has developed for industries across different sectors. Throughout the event 173 companies and 161 speakers will discuss how the industrial internet is radically transforming industry as we know it, and the benefits these technologies bring to companies and consumers alike.
Moreover, the IoTSWC has solidified partnerships with the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), Industrie 4.0, and the Industrial Valuechain Initiative (IV-I), granting the event unparalleled support from and access to the most important industry associations in the sector.

Comprehensive Congress Program
The core content of the 3-day program will focus on key verticals including Manufacturing, Transportation & Logisitics, Healthcare, and Energy & Utilities as well as Innovation & Technology and Business Transformation. The conference sessions will tackle some of the challenges that companies face as they gauge the benefits of adopting industrial IoT technologies and begin to implement their IoT vision. Topics as Asset performance, Predictive maintenance, Industrial Data Ownership and Interoperability are key to companies heavily invested in bridging legacy systems and will be in the spotlight during the three-day meeting.

Bringing industrial IoT to life
The IoTSWC has a clear focus on real-life experiences and will also include an exhibition area that will feature not only companies and their latest innovations but also a Testbeds area with real-life applications of these solutions. The 10 solutions on display will answer questions such as: How can we put an end to missing baggage at airports? How can we reduce noise in our cities and improve their water management systems? How can we successfully integrate renewable energies in the electricity network? How do you control a vehicle fleet from an office or improve the performance of a fashion store or Hospital?
These testbeds explore untried technologies or combinations of existing ones with the aim of creating ground-breaking products or techniques with the capacity to generate new international standards. The practical applications on show at the IoTSWC have been coordinated by the (IIC). Richard Soley, Executive Director of the IIC and President of the IoTSWC Advisory Board said “Many still believe that talking about the transformational role of IoT is talking about the future and the testbeds showcased at the event prove precisely the opposite. IoT is already providing new disruptive products and services that change the way business is done and in Barcelona you will actually see things working; some of those will be remote, but others will be seen right on the exhibition floor. I think is a tremendous differentiator that visitors can see companies showing their solutions on the actual exhibition floor.”
Among these is a Smart Airline Baggage Management, designed to reduce baggage losses and damage in airports. The test bed merges various Internet of Things systems to localize and connect the handling, transport and management of baggage in airports (ramps, trucks, security, aircraft, etc.). The goal is to reduce the figure of 23 million lost suitcases every year and cut the huge cost of compensation involved.
Another innovative system is one developed to integrate renewable energies in the existing electricity network, which is not currently equipped to absorb the energy generated by renewable systems such as solar panels and wind turbines. This new system creates micro-networks connected to the main network and energy storage spaces in areas of high demand to take advantage of and better integrate the production of renewable energies in the network.
IoT Awards
IoTSWC will recognize the most innovative and impactful projects developed over the course of the year through the IoT Solutions Awards. A total of seven awards will be given, one for each of the congress program themes (Manufacturing, Transportation & Logisitics, Healthcare, and Energy & Utilities as well as Innovation & Technology and Business Transformation) and one final award for the best testbed displayed at this year’s edition.
