Huawei partners with FTI to localize digital energy industry in KSA
The agreement was sponsored by stc and the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority
Riyadh, 6 September 2022: In support of its goals to localize industries and empower the telecom and information technology sector in Saudi Arabia, digital enabler stc sponsored the signing of an agreement between Huawei, one of its partners, and Saudi-based First Telecom Industries (FTI). The Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA) also backed the agreement to promote and develop local industries.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Local Content Forum in Riyadh, an annual forum led by the LCGPA to boost local content by creating cooperation between the private and public sectors while highlighting gains and investment opportunities.
This deal contributes to the development and localization of the digital energy industry, which is one of the objectives of stc’s Rawafed Program. The program aims at transferring knowledge, technology and global expertise from Huawei in cooperation with FTI by providing professional manufacturing capabilities, securing job opportunities and contributing to the local supply chains in the Kingdom.
This partnership activates the agreement signed by stc and Huawei at the LEAP Conference earlier this year to establish a digital energy localization factory to support the data center sector in the Kingdom. As per the signed agreement, FTI will provide the factory site, while Huawei will invest in integrated production lines for the factory, equip offices and a training center, and support production, in addition to providing storage facilities. The two parties also pledged to jointly explore other industry localization opportunities within the Kingdom.
This agreement is a practical step to further increase local content production, which helps achieve the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives by providing digital energy equipment locally. This would help create an attractive business environment and support technology innovation, contributing to the development of local content, digital transformation and providing several digital solutions that advance the growth of the digital economy in the Kingdom.
