Acer’s Aspire Vero paves the way for a sustainable future in everyday technology in the GCC

Dubai, UAE; July 25 2022: As the world races towards a net-zero emissions era set against the backdrop of the Paris Agreement to limit climate change, Acer’s pioneering sustainable laptop Aspire Vero is playing a key role to ensure that the accelerated digitalisation of technologies does not end up contributing more to the industry’s carbon footprint.

As the first sustainability-focused product from Acer featuring post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and eco-friendly packaging, the Aspire Vero (AV15-51) has swiftly become a popular choice for eco-conscious consumers and commercial users in the GCC and Middle East.

The reasons behind its soaring popularity are simple but powerful.

When considering the carbon footprint of a laptop, the general assumption is only about its energy consumption – which on an average daily use of 8 hours per day emits between 44-88kg of CO2 per year, according to Gartner.

But the Aspire Vero is a product designed not only for the energy efficiency of the net-zero age, but also to navigate the complex landscape of direct and indirect emissions, as well as supply chain and carbon offsetting transactions. The result is a holistic concept that is sustainable at its core and actively contributes to a circular economy in an age when an estimated 160 million laptops are manufactured every year globally, and a total of 160,000 are thrown away every day in the European Union alone.

That’s why it is essential to look at the whole lifecycle of a laptop when considering its environmental impact.

The Aspire Vero reimagines what the computer manufacturing process should look like in the energy-efficient era and more. With a comprehensive eco-design concept and a unique, eco-iconic look, the laptop brings a fresh appeal to green designs – with its chassis composed of 30% PCR plastic while cutting CO2 emissions by 21% for the production of the part.

The Aspire Vero’s keycaps also contain 50% PCR plastic, and its award-winning 100% recyclable packaging can be repurposed as a cool DIY laptop stand. Unlike most modern laptops that are designed to last just a few years and are hard to upgrade, the Aspire Vero is thoughtfully designed to eliminate needless waste by making it easy to disassemble, repair, upgrade and recycle the computer or its components.

The Acer Aspire Vero notebook stands out with unique yellow and volcano grey accents on its bumpers, and the text on the R and E keys have been inverted to highlight the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.

But the laptop’s green credentials do not compromise on the durable performance that Acer has come to stand for around the world. The Aspire Vero run the recently-released Windows 11 operating system, making it incredibly easy to use, too.

The green PC’s 99% recyclable 15.6-inch FHD IPS SlimBezel PCR display is powered by 11th Gen Intel® Core™ processors and Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics, so users can count at once on world-class performance and productivity while using a genuinely sustainable product. The notebook supports up to 16 GB of DDR4 Memory as well as 512 GB or 1 TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage, capable of withstanding content creators’ ongoing demands and creative challenges.

The Aspire Vero is also at its prime when working on less demanding tasks, with Acer’s new VeroSense™ software giving users the option of selecting a usage mode that has been optimised for energy efficiency and battery life. Features like Wi-Fi 6, a Type-C USB port and two Type-A USB ports make the Aspire Vero a reliable and future-ready device.

The Aspire Vero also looks forward to the future in more ways than the net-zero. With work-from-home becoming a commonplace fixture, the new generation of Acer TrueHarmony™ and Acer PurifiedVoice™ with AI noise reduction fitted in the laptop actively suppresses background noise for users to create the best possible conference call quality.

Embracing a full 360-degree pledge to care for the earth, Acer Middle East has also partnered with Matiti Green to plant 10 trees on behalf of the customer for every Aspire Vero sold.

But if these industry-leading features were not enough, Acer has taken its commitment to sustainability a step further by launching its “Earthion” platform dedicated towards tackling global environmental challenges – an initiative that is in close synergy with the pursuit of a low-carbon future for the region’s economies.

From 2020, all of Acer’s notebooks have adopted recycled paper for packaging, saving 8,750 kg of paper pulp and cut down on the usage of 20 million plastic bags. From Acer’s internal recycling activities, over 50 metric tons of batteries were recycled and remanufactured into new ones. This is a global effort in which more than 75% of Acer employees across 50 countries participated.

The combination of pragmatic action and thoughtful design has helped Acer create not only a unique sustainability-focused notebook, but also a conscious choice for consumers in the GCC seeking to contribute to the global goal of utilising clean energy and recyclable materials in their everyday usage of technology.
