Dubai-UAE: 18 December 2021 – Last year, the world started to evolve at an exponential pace as everyone rushed to become digital-first. However, with the recent announcement of the Metaverse, people have now been filled with excitement as it has opened a new realm of opportunities and possibilities for organizations, brands, small businesses and individuals alike.

The Metaverse market is expected to reach USD 814.2 billion by 2028. Socializing, entertainment and creativity are facilitating this boom. Furthermore, the opportunity for cross-company collaborations in areas such as gaming, advertisements, share businesses and more are also catalysts for this growth.

The Metaverse is not owned by a single owner. In fact, many organizations have adopted a variety of technologies to co-create this digital world ripe with potential and opportunity. All these platforms are providing tools to not only improve user experience but to give everyone the opportunity to engineer and construct their own world within the Metaverse.

Bigo Live is one such platform that is seeking to venture into the Metaverse. The global leading live streaming platform recently introduced its all new ‘Virtual Live’ feature. Users across the world can create 3D digital avatars to represent themselves and communicate with each other when they live stream on Bigo Live. As an important part of the Metaverse experience, avatars not only enable people to interact with one another in first-person views and experience the content in an immersive way, but also allow interoperability among many functions in the virtual world. The introduction of this feature marks a significant milestone for BIGO as they continue to evolve and expand their vision for an all-inclusive Metaverse.

Users can access the ‘Virtual LIVE’ feature through a new discovery option on the homepage. After tapping on the button, broadcasters can select their 3D avatar to begin live streaming. The camera will be able to capture the users’ body movements and facial expressions, which can be reflected onto the virtual portrait. This whole process does not require a set of wearable devices.

Bigo Live leverages its innovations in Computer Vision (CV), Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to accurately read more than 300 facial features and merge it with realistic and dynamic movements for their 3D avatars. Next generation graphics APIs are used to facilitate real-time and large-scale computing, resulting in a more realistic simulation of a user’s avatar.

“At Bigo Live, we are constantly investing to enhance user experience and provide them with more unique and meaningful ways to communicate and interact with each other,” said a spokesperson from Bigo Live. “The Metaverse is coming to redefine life as we know it. We want to be at the forefront of this change and give people the opportunity to not only explore their own creativity and potential, but create experiences that matter for themselves, their families and friends in the new digital world. The ‘Virtual Live’ feature is simply the genesis of this change and we look forward to giving people the tools and capabilities to craft their own reality both now and in the years to come.”

Currently, facial expressions can be reflected onto the virtual avatar’s face in real time and the feature provides four different body movements and postures. However, very soon, users will be able to customize more details such as facial features, body types, hair colors, outfits and much more.

“Although the Virtual Live feature is designed to enable users to express themselves freely and creatively, we believe that it’s our responsibility to ensure that the content is of value and provides meaning to our users,” continued the Bigo Live Spokesperson. “Our highly intuitive content management system is constantly working to ensure that users respect local cultures, traditions and abide by all the community guidelines of Bigo Live. This not only demonstrates our commitment to our users but also encourages them to be responsible in how they choose to express themselves and provide value and meaning to their followers.”

Live streaming and video culture is certainly the future as it will lay the foundation for the Metaverse. One can only speculate what the future will truly hold, however leveraging platforms like Bigo Live who are constantly investing to make their vision of the Metaverse a reality will surely be a steppingstone for those who want to live and experience an interconnected and immersive world filled with infinite possibilities for anyone and everyone.
