09 August 2021: As the world celebrates the United Nations’ International Youth Day 2021 on 12 August, Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) gears up to celebrate the achievements and contributions of young tech visionaries and enthusiasts around the MENA region. According to UN statistics, there is about 1.2 billion youth between the ages 15–24 years in the world, with the number expected to increase 7% by 2030.

As part of Huawei’s commitment to empowering youth, the tech giant has re-launched the Excellent Student Award category as part of the 2021 edition of Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest (Apps UP), a leading worldwide competition to recognize mobile application developers who create innovative solutions and experiences using digital intelligence. The award is dedicated to celebrating three student applicants, who will receive a US$5,000 cash award each, as well as gain access to a wealth of information and guidance from Huawei experts.

Zakariae Moujhir, developer of Decipher Word, and winner of Apps UP 2020 Honourable Mention category said, “Integrating Decipher Word using HMS Core kits was seamless. As a student at Moulay Ismail University in Morocco, we were tasked to create innovative digital experiences, and my passion for words led to the creation of Decipher Word. The interactive quiz game mainly focuses on cultural questions, and we integrated it using the Push kit, Analytics kit, and Crash service. We appreciated Huawei’s support during the journey of integrating the application into HUAWEI AppGallery, as we were able to access a plethora of workshops, guidance from Huawei experts, training modules, and courses.”

Yousaf M. Ashraf, developer of the Deaf Sign Language App, winner of Best App and Best Social Impact App categories in Apps UP 2020, said, “I integrated Deaf Sign Language App (DSLA) with HUAWEI AppGallery in 2019 as my graduation project with Indus University, Karachi, following an inspiring and educational journey with my neighbors who had hearing disabilities. Since winning two awards as part of Apps UP 2020, DSLA saw over 10,000 downloads from HUAWEI AppGallery in less than 2 months. As a young developer, integrating HMS Core kits was very simple, and I was able to navigate my way around being a Huawei developer easily and conveniently.”

As part of Huawei’s ongoing efforts to support university students who are passionate about technology, the tech provider additionally runs the HUAWEI Student Developers (HSD) program globally. Through HSD, learners unlock access to enriching training courses and activities in a dynamic learning environment.

Student developers are invited to enter as many contest categories as relevant to increase their chances of winning at the 2021 edition of the Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest (Apps UP).
