SOUQ.COM ‘MAY MOBILE MANIA’ SALE SET TO BOLSTER SMARTPHONE GROWTH THROUGH E-COMMERCE IN KSA

Souq.com the largest online retail and marketplace platform has announced its ‘May Mobile Mania’ sale in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, designed to capitalise on the booming smartphone usage in the region. With the KSA on track to be the first country in the world that operates as ‘mobile first’ when accessing the internet; smartphones, e-commerce and m-commerce* have fast become an explosive and dynamic combination for the market, and Souq.com is launching the sale to benefit consumers looking for their next device.

During the first three months of 2016, the smartphone market grew at a significant 43% and Souq.com is currently experiencing a 112% smartphone transaction growth year-on-year and 168% growth in consumers searching on its platform for smartphones – highlighting the increasing consumer thirst for new technology. In 2015, during its May Mobile Mania event Souq.com sold 1.5 times more devices in KSA than an average month on the platform. This month, Souq.com is expecting to meet and exceed these expectations with its latest sale.

Ronaldo Mouchawar, Souq.com CEO & Co-Founder comments, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is our most important market, so we are dedicated to providing our customers there with the best value deals and also empowering them to make better choices. Our May Mobile Mania sale will offer customers access to new and innovative global brands such as Samsung, HTC, Huawei honor and One Plus via the best deals which our customers will capitalise on, so we are set to see a significant uplift in sales of smartphone devices this month.”

“We have truly blazed the trail in bringing global smartphone brands to consumers in KSA for the first time ever using a ‘factory to consumer’ business model. This helps us to deliver our brand promise to provide our valued customers with the best deals and exclusive products in the region. Many global brands are hungry to enter KSA’s thriving smartphone industry and using us to do so. Most recently for example, we launched BLU Life Mark, the most affordable fingerprint sensor smartphone in the Middle East which sold out in KSA in just one day.”
