Watch Out: Five Features A New Huawei Smartwatch Could Introduce In 2019

Huawei has earned a reputation for setting new technological standards over recent years. Whether its redefining smartphone camera capabilities or paving the way for a 5G future, the Shenzhen-based tech innovators seem to wow consumers and experts alike with every new announcement. This was certainly the case in Berlin for IFA 2019, when Huawei announced a plethora of exciting launches, including its new Kirin A1 chip, the world’s first Bluetooth (BLE 5.1) Wearable Chip to boast simultaneous support for True Wireless Stereo headsets and wearable devices.

The new Kirin A1 chip is Huawei’s first in-house designed wearable chipset and its features look to foreshadow fresh innovation in the wearables space. Indeed, Huawei looks well placed to harness its proprietary technology for a new flagship smartwatch. In this piece, we consider five potential features a new Huawei smartwatch could introduce to the market.

  1. Longer battery life

With the proliferation of wireless accessories, which need to be charged overnight, battery life is high up on consumers’ lists of priorities. The Kirin A1 chipset is perfectly optimised for wearables, with a powerful audio processing unit, an ultra-low power application processor and an independent power management unit. This means any potential new Huawei wearable could redefine our expectations around battery life. If Huawei were to launch a new smartwatch, we would expect a battery life of over 10 days. This would set a new industry standard for competitors to aspire to.

  1. Improved connectivity

Huawei has already announced that its new FreeBuds 3 TWS in-ear headphones will be powered by Kirin A1, benefitting from reduced audio latency to ensure video and gaming visuals are perfectly synchronised with the sound. Thanks to Huawei’s isochronous Bluetooth technology, a new smartwatch could offer vastly improved connectivity and audio features, with a much smoother user experience than we’re used to from the smartwatches currently available.

  1. High level health & fitness monitoring

Consumers expect flagship smartwatches to offer precise health & fitness monitoring in addition to handy mobile notifications. Location and heart-rate data must be accurately tracked to ensure new smartwatches are a useful fitness companion. Huawei’s Kirin A1 chip has highly accurate sensor modules, enabling advanced GPS positioning with lower power consumption, suggesting that a potential new smartwatch could offer industry-leading health & fitness monitoring.

  1. Sublime design

Moving away from technological capabilities, one thing we can be sure of is that any new Huawei wearable would be tastefully designed. Launched at IFA, the new P30 Pro design sets a new standard for smartphone aesthetics, with intriguing new colour options ‘Misty Blue’ and ‘Mystic Lavender’. We would expect a potential new Huawei smartwatch to look equally elegant.

  1. Endless customization

Huawei’s new EMUI 10 update offers a long list of handy features, and on the design side it allows users to personalise their home screen with different colours and layouts. In addition to the attractive range of colour options among its smartphones, this suggests a design trend towards personalisation. We would expect any new Huawei wearable interface to be fully customizable based on the user’s needs.
